Physical Theatre is a broad label that encompasses a myriad of theatrical and performative disciplines, new and old, a common denominator of which is their tendency to privilege movement and images over spoken or written language.
Examples of specific physical theatre styles include: puppetry, clowning, bouffon, Commedia Dell’Arte, melodrama, tragedy, mask, dance theatre, Butoh Dance, Kabuki, Noh, circus, burlesque, Dramatic Acrobatics, and more.
