In this 22.5 hour, week-long intensive participants will engage tools from Butoh Dance and European Physical Theatre traditions to expand their expressive capacity, deepen in the mystery of being, and create an original performance, which will be showcased at an online public performance on June 13.
Come celebrate, set intentions for the New Year, and give yourself an enlivening post-holiday physical and creative workout with this by-donation, one-day Butoh Dance workshop facilitated by Jordan Rosin.
Suitable for performers and non-performers, and people of all abilities and levels of experience. Absolute beginners are welcome.

This workshop series is open to complete beginners as well as those with an existing basic practice looking to advance. A pre-existing general level of physical fitness is recommended. Adults and teens welcome, ages 12 and up.
Over the course of the each class, there will be a guided warm-up, demonstrations of skills, and time to explore and practice individual acrobatic maneuvers like rolls, cartwheels, headstand, handstands, back bends, as well as partner skills like counterbalance and lifts. Modifications up and down, as well as progressive drills and hands-on spotting may all be offered for ease or additional challenge.
Jordan Rosin, Leslie Castellano, and Synapsis Nova are honored to present the inaugural Humboldt Butoh Festival, January 19 – 21, 2018. The 2018 festival features performances & workshops with local butoh artists as well as a film screening of works by Tatsumi Hijikata (1928 – 1986), the founder of Butoh.
