About Jordan

Jordan Rosin is  is a physical theatre artist and teacher, specializing in Butoh Dance, the post-war avant-garde movement form from Japan. He also draws on yoga, acrobatics, and contact improv along with popular theatre forms like Commedia Dell’Arte, Clown, and Melodrama to create theatre and dance events with popular and poetic resonance.
Jordan was co-founder & Producing Artistic Director of the The Ume Group (NYC) from 2011-2016 where he produced and directed nearly all of the company’s mainstage productions and oversaw the company’s extensive ongoing education initiatives for working professionals. Select production credits there include:  Butoh Electra, Isis Variations, Facet, DREAM DANCES™, and The Lysistrata Project.
Jordan is also frequent collaborator with the  NYC-based butoh company Ren Gyo Soh. From 2014 to 2017 he was recognized for his work as co-choreographer of Ren Gyo Soh’s Butoh Medea (Poland, Italy, Turkey, Scotland, USA) with awards for “Best Physical Theatre” (2015) and “Best Choreography” (2014) at the United Solo Festival in New York City. Other credits include Movement Consultation for Hide Your Fires, and principle dance roles in Shinka-evolution, Hoichi-the earless, and Yuragi.
As a practitioner of Japanese Butoh Dance, Jordan has studied with some of the world’s foremost masters of the form, including Yoshito Ohno, Tetsuro Fukuhara, Ko Murobushi, and Katsura Kan. His main teachers are Joan Laage, Vangeline, Diego Piñon, and Fukuhara.
Jordan received his BFA in Acting/Directing from Syracuse University where he won the Josephine Abady Award for Excellence in Directing.  He is currently pursuing an MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theatre from Dell’Arte International in Blue Lake, California.
