Humboldt Butoh Festival 2018

Jordan Rosin, Leslie Castellano, and Synapsis Nova are honored to present the inaugural Humboldt Butoh Festival, January 19 – 21, 2018. The 2018 festival features performances & workshops with local butoh artists as well as a film screening of works by Tatsumi Hijikata (1928 – 1986), the founder of Butoh.

Using techniques of meditation, yoga, and Japanese Butoh Dance, award-winning choreographer Jordan Rosin (Int’l: Butoh Medea, FringeNYC: Butoh Electra, Artistic Director Emeritus of the NYC-based physical theatre ensemble The Ume Group), leads workshop participants on a guided journey to embody the river and the forest’s vibrant ecology, channel the spirits of nature, and investigate our deeper selves in relationship to the natural world.

With the support of the Synapsis Performance Collective in Eureka, local Butoh Dance artists Leslie Castellano and Jordan Rosin are pleased to present an entire academic calendar year full of Butoh-related activities right here in Humboldt County, California. From classes and workshops to performances and film screenings, the aim of Butoh in Humboldt is to share the beauty and power of this incredible art form / creative philosophy with all.
